This catalog entry features a composting bin made from North American cedar wood. The natural rot resistance of the cedar makes it a durable choice for outdoor environments without the need for chemical treatments. It uses a slat-based design that allows for consistent airflow throughout the organic material as it breaks down over time.
The unit measures 24 inches wide by 24 inches long and stands 31 inches high. With a capacity of approximately 77.3 gallons, it provides ample space for yard waste and kitchen scraps. The thick wood panels help insulate the pile, which can assist in maintaining the internal temperatures necessary for efficient aerobic decomposition in a backyard setting.
Assembly is straightforward due to the sliding joint design of the cedar boards. This set is particularly useful for gardeners who prefer natural materials over plastic. Because it is open to the ground, it allows beneficial soil organisms and worms to enter the pile easily, speeding up the process of creating nutrient-rich soil for garden beds.
